You must be able to show English Language proficiency as part of your application for two reasons:
- Academic: The College must be satisfied that you will be capable of study at this level in English
- Immigration: The UK Governement will only accept visa applications from students who have English Language skills.
Citizens and permanent residents of the UK, the Channel Islands, Isle of Man and Republic of Ireland do not normally need to provide evidence of English Language proficiency.
If you will need a student visa, you must have either:
- A recent IELTS test, or
- A previous University-level qualification, studied in English, and in an English-majority institution (eg: within the USA, parts of South Africa etc). This does not include studies undertaken in the English language in non-English-speaking areas (eg: China, India, South Korea, Pakistan).
If you will not need a student visa (eg: EU/EC nationals), you must still provide evidence that you will be able to study at Postgraduate level in English. An IELTS is one way to show this, but some equivalents may be acceptable. If you have not already taken an IELTS and wish to discuss your options, please contact the admissions department of the college once your application is submitted.
