ISEP-Exchange, Direct, and Summer Priority Deadlines

ISEP accepts applications after these dates, but your choice of sites may be much more limited if your application arrives later.

    • Exchange: March 1st for the fall semester, September 15 for the spring semester
    • Direct and Summer: varies by program

Check the ISEP website for updated information about fees and deadlines.

    Difference between Exchange and Direct

With an Exchange program, students pay tuition (and with ISEP, also room and board) at their home institution (Benedictine). All their financial aid – both federal and institutional – applies. As exchange programs are based on balancing students going out with students coming in, some locations might have limited or no chance of placement.

Direct programs do not have limitations on the number of participants and are typically offered at locations that have very limited or no exchange availability. With ISEP Direct you pay Benedictine the program fee specific to that Direct program, instead of your regular tuition. The program fee might or
might not include lodging and meals. You can apply your federal financial aid, but not your institutional aid.

  • If the program is not in the list above, it might not be affiliated with Benedictine College.

Contact the Study Abroad Office here.

If the program is not affiliated with Benedictine College you can still apply through Benedictine, however, they must be aware that the approval process must start at the beginning of the semester prior to the one the student plans to study abroad.

Students are required to complete the college’s online Study Abroad Application form (see link here) which provides notice to the college of the student’s intent to study abroad.

The student must then meet with relevant college offices, including the Business Office, the Office of Academic Records and Registration, and the Financial Aid Office. Meeting with these offices helps verify the student’s enrollment status while abroad, helps ensure the courses taken abroad will transfer to Benedictine, and allows the student to understand how financial aid might be accessed to help pay for the study abroad program.

Priority Deadlines to submit the study abroad online form are September 30 for the spring semester, February 28 for the summer term, and March 31 for the fall semester. A timely application along with required student meetings with college offices noted, will ensure all the relevant paperwork is taken care of well in advance of making final plans.
