Purpose: Recognition of an event such as USTA membership appreciation events, community clinics and trainings, fundraisers, professional or charity tournaments, Tennis Play Days, Kids' Tennis Club and other similar community-oriented events that rallied and mobilized a tennis community and brought the sport to the forefront.
Event MUST have been held within USTA Southwest Section territories in the calendar year being judged.
USTA organization membership not required.
CRITERIA for this award is as follows:
1) Event was held to bring tennis or an aspect of tennis (tournament, juniors, adults, wheelchair, fundraiser, training, community showcase, etc.) a special attention or focus
2) Scale and impact of event are to be especially considered, with a focus on numbers of players/volunteers participating as well as the total level of involvement of community. (Did this event use many volunteers, need large amounts of cash to be held, partner with other organizations, etc/)
3) USTA Southwest Section Championship events or USTA National championship events held in the Section each year are NOT to be considered. The focus is on our local communities running events.
Other factors to consider:
1) Budget
2) Promotion of event/media attention/publicity
3) Active participation in event
4) Quality of organizational effort
5) Using the sport positively as a platform for change/action
