The Verizon Innovative Learning explorer lab is coming to HISD middle schools in the 2018-2019 school year! In order to schedule an explorer lab visit to your school, teachers must participate in one, six-hour professional development session (stipend provided, plus lunch).
The one-of-a-kind explorer lab is an immersive experience of video, light and sound designed especially for 6th grade school students. This custom-built motorcoach bus has been transformed into a futuristic transport vessel, bringing students through the solar system to land on Mars where they must engage in the engineering design process to accomplish their missions.
The one-day professional development opportunity for 6th grade science teachers will introduce this innovative program, explore the pre- and post-lab curriculum, allow teachers to experience the explorer lab firsthand, and include scheduling for your school. The PD is also a great opportunity for teachers looking for an introduction to teaching engineering design in the classroom, as well as an opportunity to network with fellow HISD teachers. A stipend of $175 is available for teachers to participate in the workshop. Lunch will also be provided.
