On the night of August 26th, Lutheran South Academy in Houston, Texas flooded due to the extreme rainfall as a result of Hurricane Harvey. The bayou that runs near the school (Turkey Creek) went to major flood stage and spilled feet of water into the school and has also completely flooded the surrounding neighborhood.
As of Monday, August 28th, the area is still flooded and school personnel has not been able to physically get on campus to assess the damage. Security footage shows significant flooding and standing water inside each of our buildings. More information will be available here and on our social media as it becomes available.
UPDATE - Wednesday, August 30 - Turkey Creek is back within it's banks. School Admin was able to get on campus today to assess the damage. Clean-up starts tomorrow morning at 10:00 am. A call to volunteers has been put out (see facebook post).
UPDATE - Saturday, September 2 - After 3 incredible clean-up days, the school is in dehumidification mode. All drywall, carpet, and contents have been removed. We had over 1000 volunteers show up. O give thanks unto the Lord for he is good and his mercy endures forever!
UPDATE - Wednesday, September 6 - If you are wishing to donate something other than money, we would suggest sending gift cards to the address below. Gift cards will be distributed to school families and faculty members who have lost their homes or are temporarily displaced due to flooding.
