• CITY OF MT. PLEASANT, MICHIGAN
    FEE-BASED BRUSH CHIPPING APPLICATION

  • PLEASE READ ALL OF THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE PROCEEDING!

    A. FEE: $45.00 for Initial 30 Minutes – Fee is non-refundable

Any chipping that exceeds 30 minutes will be billed to the property owner at the rate of $1.65 per minute, plus 10.5% overhead added to cover administrative expenses.

    B. Brush must originate from the property.  If you live on a private drive, brush will need to be moved to the nearest City right-of-way.  City crews cannot chip brush on private property.

    C. Brush should be placed at the curbside or in the alley (City viable alleys only) no earlier than the week before the scheduled pick up and no later than 7:00 a.m. on the Monday of the chipping week.

    D. Brush must be neatly piled as much as possible with the cut or broken ends of the branches facing the street or alley. If you do not have room without blocking the sidewalk, you may pile them parallel with the street.  Failure to do so will delay chipping until the pile is correctly stacked.

    E. BRUSH ONLY PLEASE – thorns/thorn bushes, grass clippings, leaves, stumps, roots, weeds, vines, flowers, wire, trim board, lumber, etc., are not permitted.

    F. Tree limbs up to nine inches (9”) in diameter are acceptable.

    G. The brush pile must not obstruct city sidewalk, right-of-way (generally the area between the curb and sidewalk) or view of traffic.

    H. The brush chipping service is available the second and fourth FULL weeks of the month year-round, weather-permitting.  If you have any questions regarding the chipping schedule, please contact the Public Works office at (989) 779-5401.

    I. The brush chipping schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather conditions, number of chipping locations, and other obligations of City crews at the discretion of the Street Department superintendent. Please note City crews will make every effort to complete the chipping in a timely manner.

There is no set day/time for chipping. Chipping will occur sometime during the chipping week.

You must have your brush out for collection no later than Sunday evening prior to the chipping week. If your brush has not been chipped by Friday of the chipping week, please contact Public Works at (989) 779-5401.

    J. Application and payment must be made no later than 4:30 p.m. on the Thursday before the collection week.
