• Public Feedback: Designing a New Elementary School

  • Stakeholder feedback is important to Germantown Municipal Schools.  We are building a space that will accomodate our children for decades to come.  This is your chance to provide input on the crafting of what could be a world-class facility that exemplifies our Germantown brand and enhances the instructional initiatives so heavily lauded in our community.  It is important to note that this survey is a first-touch, theoretical and conceptual evaluation of building design for a school that will accomodate approximately 800 students in grades K-5.

  • Task One: Building Program

  • The first step in building design, is to establish the "building program".  This initial list gives the architects a listing of desired spaces to be included in the new school.  At the top of a budget, all items listed below could be included.  It is reasonable, however, due to budgetary concerns, that some will be cut.  Please understand that a roster of spaces to be incoporated may not appear in the list below, because they are assumed (public restrooms, student classrooms, music rooms w/ storage, Principal's office, etc.).

The following questions will address your opinions on each space in a variety of ways.  If you feel that your opinions were not accurately respresented there are some open ended questions that follow.

  • Please give us your initial reactions to the level of "need" for each of these items.

  • Task Two: Building Materials

  • Another area in which our team will be seeking feedback during the initial planning phase is "Building Materials".  There are several choices to be made that have significant budget impacts.  Choices in building materials and finishes can alter the price per square foot allowing for more or less footage--eliminating or adding options to the "Building Program".

  • Task Three: Outside of the Box Design Features

  • Lastly, help our design team assemble a Community Vison Notebook of ideas and concepts that can be used.  This Vision Notebook could include sketches, written design concepts, and outside of the box details.  For example, at a school in Atlanta there are slides included in the interior design.

We would accept narratives, links to articles, photographs of innovative spaces, or specific examples of schools that incoportate your ideas.  Please compile ideas or examples in the freeform space, or use the upload tool to share longform narratives or images.
