• 2017 ASCEND Program Student Application Form

  • The Alpha Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Ivy Endowment, Inc. is now accepting applications for the 2017 - 2018 ASCEND℠ program. The ASCEND℠ program was developed to motivate, engage, and assist high school students, both male and female, in reaching their maximum potential. This enrichment skills program will focus on career and college exploration, achievement, self-awareness, communication, community service, networking, development skills, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).

    One core component of the program is an introduction to SMART careers (science, math, and related technologies). By the end of a student’s participation in the ASCEND℠ program, students will be better positioned to transition to college life or the workplace.

    The program entails monthly workshops (September through June) with local high school students on topics that include cultural and community service, job skills exploration, and educational preparation. The monthly workshops will typically be held on the 3rd Saturday of the month at 8200 Haverstick Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46240 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Light snacks and lunch will always be provided. Workshops will be held at no cost to the program participants!

    Interested students must complete an application, provide a letter of recommendation, an official sealed transcript, and personal statement by Saturday, August 19th. All applications should be completed via Alpha Mu Omega Chapter’s website, located at www.akaamo.org. The remaining application requirements may be submitted by email to ascend@akaamo.org, sent by mail to Alpha Mu Omega Chapter, Attn: ASCEND Program, PO Box #88097, Indianapolis, IN 46208, or submitted during one of our Orientations.

    Interested high school students should:

    • Be enrolled in grades 9-12 during the 2017-2018 school year.
    • Have submitted a fully completed application packet no later than Saturday, August 19th . The Application includes a Parent/Guardian Consent Form and Student Code of Conduct & Responsibility Contract .
    • Have a minimum of a “C” cumulative grade point average (GPA), which must be verified by an official sealed transcript from the high school.
    • Provide a typed Personal Statement as to why he/she wants to participate in the program (not to exceed 500 words).
    • Provide a Letter of Recommendation from a counselor, teacher, or community leader.
    • Attend one of our orientations & participate in an interview. Letter of Recommendation, official transcript, & Personal Statement letter can be turned in during one of the following Orientation dates:
      • Saturday, August 12th: 11:00am – 12:00pm @ 8200 Haverstick Rd., Ste. #150
      • Saturday, August 19th: 11:00am – 12:00pm @ 8200 Haverstick Rd., Ste. #150
