AUGUST-SEPTEMBER
Knowing God for Yourself: Exploring the Spiritual Practices of Mysticism (August 10-Sept. 21) This class hopes to aid participants in pursuing a deeper relationship with God through exploring the writings and practices of Christian and other mystics, such as Meister Eckhart, Julian of Norwich and Attar of Nishapur (Islamic mystic), and through guided meditations that seek to center the mind and focus thoughts on God. The aim of the class is to help disciples take ownership of their relationship with God and establish spiritual practices that facilitate more intimacy with God and truer understanding of oneself.
Bible Basics (September 12); 10am-1pm) This four hour course introduces participants to the history of the bible, as well as the societal context in which it was created and canonized.
The Temptations of Jesus (Wednesdays, September 9-October &; 7-9pm) In Temptations of Jesus, Howard Thurman takes us to the wilderness. With Jesus, we face the Tempter's challenges. We rejoice in the choices Jesus makes, in his insistence on doing God's will, and we pray for his guidance as we face the dilemmas of our own lives.
OCTOBER
The Gospel of Luke (Mondays, October 5-November 16; 7-9pm): This seminar course will explore the foundation and theology of the Gospel according to Luke. Through class discussion and comprehensive reading assignments the class will explore what motivated the writers of the Gospel, how this impacted their account of the story of Jesus and what affect does this Gospel have on other writings in the bible and on our understanding of Jesus. Regular reading assignments will be provided.
NOVEMBER
Bible Basics (November 9 and 16; 6:30-9pm) This four hour course introduces participants to the history of the bible, as well as the societal context in which it was created and canonized.
