  • AP53 - Application to be an Accredited Energy Assessor through the APEL Route

  • Elmhurst Energy Systems shall carry out its accreditation and certification activities with impartiality, manage conflicts of interest and ensure objectivity.

Please read and fully complete this application, providing us with all the information required.  Insufficient detail and missing documents will result in applications being delayed.

  • Introduction

  • The experienced practitioner, or APEL, routes are designed for professionals looking to achieve accreditation, that are able to prove their involvement and experience in buildings energy management for at least two of the last five years.

The Elmhurst APEL scheme recognises skills, experience and qualifications gained during the career of a building professional.  In order to achieve accreditation via the APEL route candidates must demonstrate that they meet ALL the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding as defined by the National Occupational Standards (NOS).  Candidates must document their involvement, for at least two years in the previous five, in a role/project that requires an understanding of the technical standards of the Building Regulations and of the energy assessment of buildings, for example, Architect/Technologist, Building Control, Building Services Engineer, Energy Assessor of new buildings and other building professionals undertaking similar activities in regard to Commercial buildings or On Construction Domestic buildings.

Although not a prerequisite, candidates who hold membership of a professional body should provide evidence of their membership.

    Application Process and Fees

    • The applicant books and pays for their preferred course through our online training calendar.
    • The applicant receives a link to our online APEL application form, completes and submits the form.
    • The applicant has their qualifications, skills and experience ‘mapped’ against the National Occupational Standards and a decision is made on acceptability.
    • Applicants are notified of the decision and where successful, will be sent an official confirmation of course start times and location etc.
