  • Visa Information

Based on your application so far, it looks like you might need a UK Student Visa. The below information is designed to help you prepare for making a Visa application.
  • Financial Proof & Required Funds

When applying for your visa, you may need to provide evidence that you have enough funds to cover your studies and living expenses. If you have a government student loan, proof of approval is usually enough. Otherwise, you will need to show that you have:

    1. Enough to cover your first year’s tuition fees, plus
    2. £9,207 for personal maintenance costs.

These funds must be in your account for at least 30 consecutive days before applying.

    English Language Requirement

Some students need to provide proof of English proficiency, but this is not required if:

    1. You are from Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, the British overseas territories, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Malta, New Zealand, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, the UK, or the USA.
    2. You are a Canadian national.
    3. You are applying for a study abroad programme linked to a US university degree.
    4. You have already proved your English proficiency in a previous visa application.

    When to Apply

You can submit your visa application up to four months before your course starts (e.g., from April for a September start). The latest you can apply is six weeks before term begins, but applying earlier is best to avoid delays.

  • You must be able to show English Language proficiency as part of your application for two reasons:

    • Academic: The College must be satisfied that you will be capable of study at this level in English
    • Immigration: The UK Governement will only accept visa applications from students who have English Language skills.
Citizens and permanent residents of the UK, the Channel Islands, Isle of Man and Republic of Ireland do not normally need to provide evidence of English Language proficiency.

If you will need a student visa, you must have either:

    • A recent IELTS test, or
    • A previous University-level qualification, studied in English, and in an English-majority institution (eg: within the USA, parts of South Africa, etc.). This does not include studies undertaken in the English language in non-English-speaking areas (eg: China, India, South Korea, Pakistan).

If you will not need a student visa (eg: EU/EC nationals), you must still provide evidence that you will be able to study at Undergraduate level in English. An IELTS is one way to show this, but some equivalents may be acceptable. If you have not already taken an IELTS and wish to discuss your options, please contact the admissions department of the college once your application is submitted.
