  • WORKSHOP 1 - WHAT'S IT GOING TO TAKE? UNDERSTANDING ACADEMIC EXPECTATIONS

  • Learning Outcomes

    • Students will understand what instructors expect from them on a weekly and daily basis - the amount of time, the effort and the types of tasks involved in being a high performing student.

    • Students will review the syllabus for each class, and determine what each class requires as regards effort, time and task commitments.

    • Students will understand why – based on how the brain works – that it is necessary to devote sufficient daily and weekly time to each class.
  • Instructions

This module is not intended to take you a long time. However, it has been designed carefully so you need to do each part in order to get the most out of it and achieve the learning outcomes. Your reflections can be just a few sentences (or longer if you like). You do not need to write a great deal but answer each question thoroughly.

  • Activity # 2 – Reviewing Your Syllabi

Do This Soon - (You do not need to do these things this very minute but make sure you do them within the next two days if not sooner.)

    • Carefully read through each of your course syllabi
    • For each course, consider what the course requires from for you as regards daily and weekly habits as a student.
      • If you are not sure ask the instructor. But it’s a good idea to ask the instructor even if you believe you are sure.
      • Discuss this with another student in the course as well.

    • Get a time planner (if you do not already have one). In your planner, write down when each test or quiz is for each class, when assignments are due and as much additional details as possible about the requirement of each course. Your goal is for the planner to contain a success plan for each class including as much precision as possible regarding what needs to be done and when for each class.

Have you reviewed all the materials that are in Blackboard?
