    When to Apply

  • English Language Proficiency

All teaching at the College is conducted in English, so applicants whose first language is not English or who are not from exempt countries need to demonstrate proficiency in English through completion of an IELTS test with a minimum score of 7.0, or its equivalent, overall. You are responsible for arranging to take the appropriate test and for submitting the documentary evidence. This is not required for permanent residents of the UK or other EU nations.

  • You must be able to show English Language proficiency as part of your application for two reasons:

    • Academic: The College must be satisfied that you will be capable of study at this level in English
    • Immigration: The UK Governement will only accept visa applications from students who have English Language skills.
Citizens and permanent residents of the UK, the Channel Islands, Isle of Man and Republic of Ireland do not normally need to provide evidence of English Language proficiency.

If you will need a student visa, you must have either:

    • A recent IELTS test, or
    • A previous University-level qualification, studied in English, and in an English-majority institution (eg: within the USA, parts of South Africa, etc.). This does not include studies undertaken in the English language in non-English-speaking areas (eg: China, India, South Korea, Pakistan).

If you will not need a student visa (eg: EU/EC nationals), you must still provide evidence that you will be able to study at Undergraduate level in English. An IELTS is one way to show this, but some equivalents may be acceptable. If you have not already taken an IELTS and wish to discuss your options, please contact the admissions department of the college once your application is submitted.

  • Academic References

Please supply the names and addresses of two academic referees able to comment on your suitability for the proposed course of study. When the application has been received, the college will contact the referees with the appropriate forms. You will be notified when your application is complete.
