The first annual Queer Young Adult Literature Conference is for educators and students who want to learn more about literature that deals with queer themes and identities. The conference provides an opportunity for students and educators to interact with YA authors, address issues related to queer youth, promote identity exploration and queer visibility through YA lit, and strengthen the network of those who advocate for queer youth. The conference will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the University Memorial Center at CU-Boulder.
The National Council Teachers of English is seeking nominations for the Queer Literacy Educator of the Year. The educator – a member of the queer community or an ally – must have a record of implementing literacy activities that promote exploration and affirmation of queer identities and issues. We are seeking candidates who are resourceful, courageous, and compassionate. Candidates must have made a significant difference in the lives of queer youth in their schools by impacting school culture and curriculum.
