A.O. Wheeler Legacy Award
"For Outstanding and Varied Contributions to the ACC over Many Years."
The A.O. Wheeler Legacy Award was instituted in 1986. The form of this award is a special pin accompanied by a wood and brass plaque describing the award. This honorary award is the highest award The Alpine Club of Canada (ACC) offers for outstanding service to the Club and includes a life membership in the ACC.
This honorary award is presented to members of the ACC who already hold the Distinguished Service Award (DSA) and who have given outstanding service to the Club either on a voluntary basis or exceeding the value of their remuneration, in the following areas:
a) have made a long term commitment to the goals and objectives of the Club, as they are described in the Club's Constitution (available on the ACC website);
b) who have served and participated, over a period of at least seven years at the National Level of the Club through service to multiple committees, projects, or activities; and
c) whose work has resulted in substantive, meaningful and long-lasting improvements to the Club and its operations.
A nomination for the A.O. Wheeler Legacy Award is made by any ACC member, in writing on this nomination form no later than December 31st of each year. The names of prospective recipients are evaluated by the Awards Committee. Its recommendations are then presented to the Board of Directors prior to the Club's Annual General Meeting. Successful nominees must have a favourable vote of not less than three-quarters of the voting members of the Board. Recipients receive their award at the AGM or in some other suitable manner.
