VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY DESCRIPTIONS
Volunteer Coordinator – Access our email to respond to inquiries. Contact and interview potential volunteers to determine their interests in helping GOTR. Form committees by placing volunteers in the appropriate positions. Follow-up with them to ensure that the volunteers are enjoying their work with us. Assist with ideas about how to attract volunteers. Work with Go Team Coordinator. Time commitment: 1 – 2 hours, 4 – 5 days per week
GO Team Coordinator – Be the ambassador who sources "Girls who are Older" to provide a multi-generational connection to the program. Work with Volunteer Coordinator for placements. GO Team members can help with any of the other volunteer teams. They will provide an example of empowered women in the community. Time commitment: 1 – 2 hours, 2 – 3 days per week
Sponsorship Recruiters - “Team Neda” – Help identify, negotiate with, and obtain sponsors for our Council, running seasons, and/or annual events like Rugged Runner Challenge and end-of-season 5Ks. Time commitment: minimum 1 – 2 hours, 2 – 3 days per week
Event Committee Members
“Team Rose” - GOTR 5K Run – (Nov/Dec & May Events) join a committee to help plan, organize and execute this community-wide, end-of-season event. Time commitment: Approximately two hours per week on average. Attend monthly meetings until close to the event, and then in two-week increments in the last 2-3 months prior to the event. Time away from the committee to complete assigned tasks, as required by assignment and goal.
“Team Ruby” - Rugged Runner Challenge – (Spring Event) Join a committee to help plan, organize and execute our major fundraising event. Time commitment: Approximately two hours per week on average. Attend monthly meetings until close to the event, and then in two-week increments in the last 3 months prior to the event. Time away from the committee to complete assigned tasks, as required by assignment and goal.
Resource Developers – “Team Pearl” – Source and various individuals who are willing to hold an event at their place of business or elsewhere in support of GOTR. Plan and execute the event. For example, a happy hour that has proceeds to benefit GOTR, or the Eileen Fisher one-day shopping event. Time commitment: Approximately 1 – 2 hours per week
Site Visitors – “Team Adelaide”* – Visit sites and assure that program quality is maintained at each site. Complete site evaluation forms. Talk with coaches to determine their needs to maintain quality. Note: This is not a “job performance review” of the coaches. It is intended to maintain high quality for the girls and ensure that the site is appropriate for the program. Travel is required. Time commitment: Approximately 10 hours per season (Depending on the number of sites reviewed and how many Team Adelaide members there are) *GOTR International name
Community Ambassadors – “Team Grace” – Go to a variety of community fairs during the year to be stationed at a booth and talk-up GOTR. Possibly take registrations. Time commitment: each fair is 3-4 hours. Number of fairs to attend is up to the volunteer, but GOTR hopes that all fairs on schedule will be covered by volunteers. One – two hours of training initially. Training as needed thereafter.
Coaches Box Makers – “Team Carmen” - At the end of each season, build the boxes for the next season by checking inventory, taking out unusable items for lessons or first aid and replacing them with new. Keep a list of items and quantities that need to be purchased to complete a box. Time commitment: Approximately 6 hours at the end of each season (depending on the number of members on Team Carmen).
Traveling Promoters – “Team Goldie” – Bring promotional materials to other organizations’ race events and put on parked cars of attendees. Time commitment: 2-3 hours in the early hours of the morning on weekends (as many weekends as choose, but GOTR hopes all important races will be covered)
“Day-of” Event Volunteers –“Team Ollie” – Register for and show up that day for the event to assist where needed Time commitment: Approximately 6 hours in one day. May be some training in advance (if needed)
Sub-groups: Running Buddies, Refreshment tables, water tables, GOTR tent, award table, medal handouts, cheerleaders/motivators along the race route, parking attendants, other as defined by committees.
Grant Researcher - Primary responsibilities include performance of responsible, professional administrative work in researching and identifying private grant opportunities. Qualified candidate should possess excellent computer skills. The candidate must be highly organized with the ability to implement systems and follow-up processes, effectively work under pressure, and use independent judgment to distinguish and identify funding opportunities. Ability to create a database of grant opportunities and deadlines that can be easily accessed. Ability to read through large quantities of information and boil it down to its most important components. Ability to keep Council Director advised of findings in a thorough and complete manner. Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and have experience using online databases and other sources. Must be a team-player. Requires travel to Boca Raton to use the Junior League Grant Library between the hours of 9 AM and 3PM. If needed, ability to participate in the training sessions at the Grant Library to be able to effectively use the resource. Time requirement: Minimum of 2 hours per week. May work together with other volunteers.
Sponsor Researcher - Primary responsibilities include performance of responsible, professional administrative work in researching and identifying corporate sponsorship opportunities (not corporate foundations). Qualified candidate should possess excellent computer skills. The candidate must be highly organized with the ability to implement systems and follow-up processes, effectively work under pressure, and use independent judgment to distinguish and identify funding opportunities. Ability to create a database of sponsorship opportunities and deadlines that can be easily accessed. Ability to keep Council Director advised of findings in a thorough and complete manner. Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and have experience using online databases and other sources. Must be a team-player. Time requirement: Minimum of 2 hours per week. May work together with other volunteers.
Program Data Research Evaluator – Statistics major helpful. Primary responsibilities include working with the Council Director in the performance of responsible, professional administrative work in ensuring surveys of girls, families and coaches are accurately data entered, maintained, and analyzed. Ability to use computer software such as Excel and Word. Familiarity with Google Docs helpful. Gather surveys from sources and ensure they have been accurately input. Compare data from pre- and post-seasons to other seasons and years. Aggregate data. Look for trends in data. Use analysis to interpret data. Report findings. Time requirement: (estimate) 8 hours toward the beginning of each season and then 10 – 12 hours at the end of the season.
Letter Writer/Coach Story Liaison - Primary responsibilities include working with the Council Director in the performance of responsible, professional administrative work in writing correspondence to donors and potential donors and volunteers. Ability to convey the essence of the program to the reader to keep him/her interested in and engaged with the organization. Ability to create a lively but factual story from facts and information. Ability to interview coaches, girls and/or family members to gather stories and testimonials that can be used in letters. Ability to attend an event and gather anecdotal information from the event to use in letters. Must enjoy writing to specific audiences with the ability to tailor writing style appropriately. Must be team player, willing to share information with others in the organization in a timely manner. Time requirement: Varied. Ability to respond with written correspondence within 24 hours of notification of a donation.
